Laparoscopy
This keyhole surgery (laparoscopy) involves making miniature incisions on the patient’s abdomen. A telescope is inserted from one of these holes to inspect the interior of the abdomen.
The procedure is performed either to reconstruct a defect in the urinary tract (laparoscopic pyeloplasty) or to remove a tumourous organ such as kidney or adrenal tumour.
The advantages of laparoscopic surgery are early recovery, less postoperative pain, reduced haemorrhage and small incision scars. Not all patients qualify to have keyhole surgery.
